I don’t mind. It’s Jak. I ordered a pair of sneakers from their Royal product line. https://fromjak.com/ At this point, I’m hoping it’s an aberration. When if it is, though, I’m not impressed enough with their CustServ to consider ordering from them again unless the sneaks are significantly better than similar products from other companies. The other leather sneakers I’ve bought in the past year from Beckett Simonon, Wolf & Shepherd, and Thursday (yes, the boot company) have all been well made, and the few hiccups I’ve had with my purchases were quickly resolved. Of those, only Beckett Simonon is primarily MTO. But to be fair, Jak isn’t primarily MTO either. Generally speaking, the most common problems I’ve had with orders with DTC/MTO clothing have been with product availability- things getting sold out, usually generating a rapid cancellation & refund and getting the sizing right. In the latter case, I do take pains to make sure I ask sizing questions before purchasing and making sure I get my measurements right. And of course, anything that’s truly MTO takes extra time to complete the order. Beckett Simonon wait times are typically in the 1-2 month window. Some boots I’ve found- but not ordered- have waitlist + production time that are a year or more. Hats & vests have been in the 1 month window. To date, I have not had an issue with quality. Even stuff I’ve had to return or exchange has been well made. For the most part, I think I’ve gotten value for my money. But even so, there’s some companies I won’t buy from again. One of the first MTO purchases I made were some flashy custom shoes from Undandy. At the time of the purchase, they were just over $200, made in and shipped from Portugal. Right now (years later), the same shoes would be over $350, and the only plus to buying from Undandy would be the customizability. Quality wise, I can find shoes of similar or superior quality from more mainstream shoemakers for that same price.
