I once earned an actual Marvel No-Prize. There was a three- or four-issue storyline in Peter Parker, the Amazing Spider-Man, that involved these little alien cockroach robots. They had their own little language, which was a cipher system, and they spoke in word balloons using these symbols instead of letters. I sat down and deciphered the language, and wrote in to the comic explaining everything the alien cockroaches had been saying over the past few issues. The funny thing was, this was back in the late 80s/early 90s, and I was away on alert (I was an Air Force missileer at the time) when my No-Prize came in the mail. I talked to my wife on the phone that night, and she informed me I had gotten something from Marvel Comics. Having forgotten about the cockroach language deciphering in the weeks since I'd sent in my letter, I had no idea what they might have sent me. My wife asked me if she wanted me to open it and I told her to go ahead - luckily, she said, "It says something about a No-Prize on the envelope," which prompted me to tell her, "Don't open it! Leave it as it is!" (For those unaware, a No-Prize is what Marvel would send you if you caught a mistake in one of their comics and then found a way to explain it away as not having been a mistake at all, or for something else above and beyond the duties of a simple reader. The "No-Prize" was just an empty envelope with "Congratulations! Your official Marvel No-Prize is enclosed within!" stamped on the envelope. They're supposed to be worth more if left sealed; I have mine stored with the issue of Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man that ended the alien robot cockroach storyline.)
