My Dad made 80 last Sunday; Mom will hit 80 in a couple weeks. They’re both pretty healthy overall, but Mom has injuries that have hampered her stamina, mobility and stability. I live with them- it cuts costs & concerns for all involved. A few years ago, we started talking seriously about getting something like a LifeAlert for her. I was in the kitchen doing dishes when she went into the yard to look for our dog, and she fell off the porch. In physical distance, she was maybe 20’ from me. But she was on the other side of brick walls, and there was noise from the TV and the running water in the sink. I couldn’t hear her. Fortunately, the neighbor heard her from the other side of the fence and helped her get up and back in. Complicating the issue: Mom never carries her iPhone at home. Complication #2: LifeAlerts are ugly and would clash with madame’s jewelry & clothing choices. Complication #3: our WiFi doesn’t project well throughout the house or yard (we’re upgrading it, but it will still be an issue outside). So, for those (and more reasons), Apple Watches are our current front runners for my parents’ health & safety, at least at home. We’d get the ones that don’t need connectivity to WiFi. (Mom will insist on upgrading the band on hers, if/when we pull the trigger on purchasing them.)
