Pirate-flavor Adventures

First Post
I'm planning ahead for a few adventures down the line and looking for some pirate-flavor (swashbuckling) adventues.

I'm not too concerned about game system or level, because I don't mind doing some conversion, so long as the adventure is good. (FYI: the PCs will be 4-5th level.)

I'm aware of the Green Ronin material for Skull & Bones and Freeport (esp. Black Sails Over Freeport). But I thought I'd tap into the collective intelligence of the boards. In particular, 1e and 2e stuff that's good would be fine, since I should be able to pick up the old TSR pdf's on RPGNow.

Thanks,

Might check out the old source book Sea of Stars while not an adventure it should have a plethora of ideas.

Swashbuckling adventures by AEG has a good adventure in the end and plenty of ideas.

Dungeon 116 maybe (septembers issue of 04) both the Torrents of Dread and Madgods Key have elements of Piratism and can easily be adapted for more focus on that flavor.

I had a swashbuckling campaign planned that got tanked. There are some good adventures out there. AEG's Swashbuckling Adventures has lots of stuff, though it is pricey. There are two adventures in the Dungeon Crawl Classics line, one is Bloody Jack's Gold, can't remember the name of the other one, but I can check it later. Torrents of Dread is good and there are others in Dungeon. One of my favorites for flavor is Rana Mor (ancient temples, etc.), but I don't remember the issue number.

I will get my list when I have time and be more specific.

I've been running a swashbuckling/pirate campaign for about four years now. I've bought at least a half dozen d20 books on the subject and I have to say that Swashbuckling Adventures is the best of the lot in terms of flavor and spice. The other books I picked up (including Living Imagination's Broadsides!, Fantasy Flight Games' The Seafarer's Handbook, Mongoose Publishing's Seas of Blood, Green Ronin's Freeport, etc.) were nice and all brought a little something to the table, but in the end Swashbuckling Adventurers is the one I still use today.

The plethora of sword-style prestige classes make for interesting battles and the numerous feats now prove very forward thinking in their approach, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. It is a bit light on the technical side, but a supplement Ships and Sea Battles fills that niche nicely. Both books have a lot to offer and I highly recommend them. I've found them indispensable over the last few years and well worth the cost. Of course, they're both 3.0, but that obviously wouldn't be a problem.

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned Skull & Bones by Green Ronin yet. If you are looking for adventures they put out a PDF magazine called Buccaneers & Bokor and there is an adventure in each issue. You can check it out at the link below. For a while they had a sample issue with an adventure you could use.

Edit: I stand corrected, you can't get it at the previous link though you can download issues of B&B from that site. You can download the adventure "Island of the Damned" at Green Ronin's site though.

Edit #2: Oops... I see that the original poster is already aware of GR. That'll teach me to start reading with the most recent post. :)

Mind you, I don't think you will find many people arguing that S&B isn't cool!

Though with a handle like Calico Jack you might be a tad biased in your views?

S&B is on the short list for campaigns I intend to run, alas the short list is far too long these days - as games take a holding position in DM space. (Rather like Poke space, the place where 3.5 paladins keep their mounts...)

The Auld Grump, currently on hold - Babylon 5, Skull & Bones, and Changeling: the Dreaming...
