Pirated DVDs for sale at GenCon

I was a little surprised by that myself.

I was still pretty tempted to pick up Grayson though.

I laughed a bit when I saw these guys selling copies of the trailer to Grayson and World's Finest as you can find both online for free. Grayson can be found here.

Of course I was tempted to pick up the old Thundarr cartoons, so I can understand the desire.

I was thinking the same thing. One of the vendors was kicked out on Friday but I'm pretty sure the others were allowed to stay. I saw all types of stuff that was obviously burned/photocopied, etc. I had to convince one of my buds to not buy anything from certain dealers. They had "previews" on monitors that were on about 9 inch screens. I could tell, even at that size, that the picture quality was awful.

It must be awfully embarrassing to be kicked out of GenCon for any reason.

In Milwaukee, a friend of mine got arrested for jaywalking during the con. They took him downtown and gave him the choice between time in jail, coming back to see a judge, or a substantial ($50+, iirc) fine. He chose the fine.

I mean, arrested for jaywalking? It's a competitive sport in Boston! :D

Sorry about that experience, but if it makes you (or your friend) feel any better, Police Chief Arthur Jones (the man responsible for making MPD officers go out and ticket people specifically for jaywalking during that time) was finally replaced. Why we weren't able to get him out beforehand is a road we shouldn't go down here... I'm just glad we have someone in office actually fighting crime now.

From what I understand (I wasn't able to go to Gen Con until it moved to Indy), Milwaulkee hated the con, generally resented the hoard of gamers that came there every year, and weren't exactly crying to see it leave (a few businesses that directly profitted like nearby resturants aside). Indy seems to be much friendlier and welcoming (of course, they're used to big conventions).

You should study up on the host town. If you want to successfully compete in Milwaukee, forget jaywalking. The real money is in on-street parking and related skillz.

I don't know about gencon but I know I'll see several "dealers" selling bootleg videos/dvds at dragoncon next weekend..... even dvd copies of the Star Wars trilogy.... (not the ones coming out next month but copies from video tapes of the originals)

As I stated above, the reason for the jaywalking fine was not because Milwaukeeans reveled in fining GenCon'ers, but because we had an incompetent Police Chief who somehow believed those that were jaywalking one day would be selling crack from the streetcorners the next.

I've lived in Milwaukee most of my 30 years, I attended every GenCon in Milwaukee since I was about 12 and I never had the impression my fellow citizens had any ill-will toward GenCon'ers. Maybe some second glances for those in costumes- but don't we all? ;)

I've traveled to many cities in the U.S. and abroad, and although I might be biased, I think Milwuakee is one of the friendliest cities I've been in. Unfortunately, GenCon outgrew Milwaukee as the city's government never made plans to expand and grow the downtown area over the years (and made a pathetic attempt to renovate and expand the convention center). Fortunately, however, GenCon found Indianapolis, and although I miss the convenience of having the con in my backyard, I am glad it is in Indianapolis.

Sorry for the tangent, but I feel Milwaukee gets a bad rap now that GenCon is in Indianapolis.
