Piratey Adventure Ideas

As a lovingly hold my copy of Skull and Bones, I am wracking my brain to come up with a promised Pirate Campaign for my gaming group. With a true 1700's Caribbean pirate adventure being hard to fine, it seems I have to build this puppy from the ground up. I want a fast pace game of high adventure and high action with tons of good opportunities for roleplay. Throw in some voodoo and supernatural elements and cook to perfection.

So I need some help. What would you want to see in a Pirate game? I have a few ideas already.

1. The Evil Island Governor and his beautiful Daughter.
2. Big ship to ship battles with cannon ablazing (a must have)
3. Buried Treasure and a Treasure Map.

I would also recommend the boxed set "Roll out the Guns". It's written for Rolemaster, but the backgrounds, scenarios, encounters, and characters would be just the kinds of thing you're looking for.

Rubber pirates, kickboxing cooks, and pop apart clowns.

Seriously, there should always be some horribly evil, and utterly dispicable pirate captian with a squat, ugly, ill-mannered toady/first mate.

Just for the record (in case somebody wants to Google that), it's "Run out the Guns".

Start...with an island world. Create a game world with 1-2 large-ish continents...make everything else Island Kingdoms and chains of Islands.

Make swimming and profession: sailor class skills for everyone (unless they want to be from one of the continents).

Then create a sea based campaign ... *shrugs*

Sounds like somebody was inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean -Kenzer's recently released "Salt & Sea Dogs" has several good ideas that I can't think of while I'm at work. It is set in the pre-gunpowder era, but, I'm pretty sure there are some good ideas within the book.

My game will be set in the 1700's Caribbean. So no need to creating a world. ;) I just need to read abunch of history. And boy history can be stranger than fiction.

You might want to read some fiction, though -- Rafael Sabatini wrote some great pirate fiction. I'd especially recommmend Captain Blood and The Black Swan. There's also an Erroll Flynn movie of the former and a Tyrone Power movie of the latter, if you want to save time (and in the case of the latter, get a radically different story... :( ) Of course, my favorite Sabatini book is Scaramouche which was set during the French Revolution...
