Pit of Loch-Durnan-out of print soon

Mystic Eye

First Post
Well, you may have loved it, you may have hated it, or something in between, but our first module, The Pit of Loch-Durnan is running out. I had a final box I shipped to the warehouse today and that will end its run.

We don't plan on a reprint at this time, especially without an overhall. We have learned so much since then we would have to completely redo the book. when we wrote it, the MM was not out yet. In fact, when we started the DMG was not out either, so we had little point of reference for 3e. The SRD was quite slim then too.

Pit sold over 4000 copies world wide or so and enabled us to learn quite a bit. We thank folks like Damien (who recently posted a review) for their candid and constructive input. It has helped us to be better for future products. It gave us the chance to build up so we are well funded and able to produce high quality books like we are now.

Thanks for those that supported us and gave us a chance to learn from our first (rough) effort of a year ago next month. POLD was released in Jun of 2001.

So thanks again for all the support and thanks for allowing us to grow into what we are today.

That's interesting. It seems that quite a few of the original d20 modules are going the way of all flesh.

It makes me wonder how prepared the publishers are to follow up with electronic versions in pdf format (or other).

For example, say five months down the road, will there be a pdf version of The Pit? How about a year?

On one hand, putting OOP modules in such a format could help introduce people to some 'classic' material but it might hurt sales if people thought that if they waited a year (yeah, you know us patient roleplayers) that they could get it cheaper or for free.

That's assuming that the module is indeed ready for pdf treatment. I imagine that these days most publishers are going this direction by insuring that their products are electronic friendly.

Well, Mystic Eye, I'm happy that you found my review constructive. I look forward to checking out your future releases. :)

I bet a lot of the sales were to Justin Bacon, so he could burn them in a bonfire...

I'm not goin there.

Joe, I really don't see too many people waiting to pick up a title until it is a PDF unless they were not that interested in the first place. The number of people who use the media is still relatively small as well. Who knows though, as the e-media becomes more popular maybe things like that will happen.

On another note, I would love to eventually do new e-version of Pit thinking of all we could do now with our deeper experience as a publisher. It is on the list of "things that would be cool to do" .

It actually amazes me when I come here and see any product that has been out as long as Pit get a new review. Its cool though, that people are willing to take the time to offer up their opinion on them still after being out so long and with so many other reviews.

I may be bias (yeah I am) but I think e-books are perfect for out of print products. I donno why more companies haven't done this yet. What's it hurt to just release the PDF of an old product that had its run? Could show more interest then you think.

There are so many great out of print products out there that are being sold on Ebay all the time.
