Steady on...

Ahem. Cthulhu Companion chapter from Call of Cthulhu 3rd edition hardback, Chaosium & Games Workshop 1986. Article by Lynn Willis.

The prison is Chaya Ranas, "located in either North Africa or Middle East ... In the 18th century, the Bey of Ranas solved his convict problem by having them dig a salt mine and then locking them in it." Sounds like your one.

The other four prisons in the article are Big House Pen (USA) (basically Alcatraz), Wayshearn County Work Farm, HM Deathoak Prison (Great Briton), Boleta Ocho (Latin America).

That's it. Rats. I was kind of hoping it was a real place. How disappointing it is when things don't work out like you imagine. I've not been this dejected since that day I spent running through the streets of Gdansk, ears ringing from the piercing yaps, blood filling my sneakers, and realizing that, yes, the Annual Running of the Pomeranians is indeed a stupid thing.

BTW, thanks for the cite.
