So, as the year is drawing to a close, come get in on record and make some fabulous predictions as to what 4e will contain. Draw some wild conclusion that you just know will be part of the new edition, that is as of yet unreleased, and show your Nostradamus-like abilities. I'll get the ball rolling with a non-numbered list.

- Wisdom will not modify Will save, Charisma will.
- Wisdom will modify Perception, which will be a static value like saves and AC.
- Paladins will have the restriction "Cannot be unaligned."
- Dragonborn will get the most unbalanced complaints.
- PHBII will have the primal and psionic power sources. Monk will be part of the psionic power source.

- Save or Die effects will remain in as a mechanic for destroying minions.
- There is an unannounced controller class in one of the other power sources in PHBI
- PHBII will not have psionics and will instead finish out martial, divine, and arcane classes only adding nature/primal type character.
- Social mechanics will undergo more balancing revisions than the combat mechanics.
- The electronic tools will not be ready until v2.1
- Spears will still be underpowered since they keep getting relegated to "simple" weapons.
- WotC will end up dropping all of their micro-payment schemes due to community resistance and increasing the monthly cost of the DDI subscription to offset it.
- Most online campaigns will use the many free wiki hosting services in lieu of Gleemax.
- For all the talk about not being centered around MMOs the 4e MMO will be a million times more fun due to the design changes of 4e.
- Monks will be a Ki striker.
- Campaigns will increasing be based around power sources for flavor reasons, parties of all arcane roles, or all divine or all martial classes will be common.
- 2008 April Fool joke will be the announcement of 4.5.
- When the Bard is released it will be overpowered.
- 4e Pun-Pun will be reborn in all his glory within two years.
- 4e will succeed in being easier and more fun to play and be generally acknowledged as a good thing by the gaming community at large.
- 5e will be published in 2016 anyway.

Tiefling will become the race du jour of angsty emo players, finally knocking dual wielding drow rangers out of the top spot . As a result, my players will ruthlessly murder all Tiefling NPCs on sight.

-- CODzilla will be back and better/more powerful than ever in 4e.

-- The tails of tieflings will become a horrible running joke in exactly 7 out of every 13 4e campaigns. (My favorite one so far was regarding a tiefling's tail/toilet troubles from another thread).

-- George Bush Sr. sues WotC for trademark infringement about 'points of light.'

-- The 'aura' bonus that (wood) elves give to all companions within 5 squares will be eliminated (much like other similar mechanics embedded in other races) thanks to complaints from EN World posters.

-- People will be unexpectedly impressed and satisfied with dragonborn.

Tieflings will gang up on such 'cool kids' races and take their stuff.

...and show your Nostradamus-like abilities...

Vague predictions with a patina of specifics to disguise the vagueness, so that you can't help but hit a few of them? OK:

  • 4E will contain at least one rule that will fit this profile--it will be servicable, even elegant. It will accomplish the design goal. The design goal will be laudable. Yet, it will be poorly explained, totally misunderstood, and thus unfairly stigmatized for the whole life of 4E. No amount of explanation by anyone will salvage the poor first impression.
  • Some of the flavor text will inadvertently reveal the template and boilerplate text handed to some of the writers pressed for time. Editing will remove the obvious -insert X here- notes, but the repeated pattern of the text will make it obvious. Within one week of the official release, someone on the internet will parody this template--maybe even intentionally.
  • Tieflings will be the new elf--the race that divides players into two camps, the tielfing lovers and the tiefling haters. Even people that don't really care about tielfling one way or the other will be driven into a camp by the antics of someone in the opposite camp. As an unintended side effect, elves will enjoy a new respectability and consensus, if not quite outright enthusiasm.
  • Despite the above, and many similar "issues", 4E will be quietly enjoyed by several hundred thousand people.
