Planescape News, Origins, Gen Con and more!

First Post
NOTE: I'm posting this for Ken Marable, my right-hand PS man...

Say, anyone here considering going to Origins or GenCon this year?
Interested in possibly a Planescape game?

I'd love to get a Planescape game (or several) registered at each of the
conventions. Our new core sourcebook will be out by then (really), and it'd
be great to help get the word out of Planescape 3e through some games.
Anyone interested in DMing any? Playing in any? We can look at creating a
pregenerated adventure to run if people want.

I'm not sure if I'm getting to either convention but I'm hoping to make it
to at least one. If I do, I'll definitely run a session or two. Just
wondering if there's anyone else interested in running any sessions,
especially since the deadline for GenCon (Indy) is this Friday! (Yeah, it
snuck up on me.) Not sure of any deadline on Origins, the website is a bit
patchy. But it looks like they might still be taking events.

So if there is any interest, I'd love to do what I can to help make it
happen (short of paying people's way, of course).

Also, when the conventions are closer, we'll probably try to set up some
sort of Planewalker/Planescape get together. We attempted it last year, but
it was *very* last minute and didn't quite work out.

Thanks,
Ken

P.S. Just FYI: We'll be choosing a new web host this week and begin
transitioning the site shortly after that. So they will return. Also, we
have a major preview of our sourcebook almost ready to release. I'm hoping
that will happen in the next couple weeks. Thanks for the patience!!

Planescape Sites

Sorry to hijack this thread slightly off-course, but...

Ashy, I thought the official Planescape site was called Kreigspeilz (EDIT: Kreigstanz)or something like that. Is that a different site than the ones you linked above?

Yup, it's different.

Kriegstanz is a PS3e site run by Zach, aka "Hardhead." It's all his own work, and it was basically the first hints of PS3e stuff coming off the line, since he's working on PS3e, too.

But the OFFICIAL sites are Planewalker and PS3e. Zach's site is a fan site, though a durn good one run by a canny cutter up on his chant. :)

So let me see if I understand this now...there are two official Planescape sites...and I'm not sure where in either of them the official (not-fan-made) materials are...help

Well, technically, it's all fan-made. :)

Here's the story as I understand it...

Part 1: Planescape gets an official fansite on the web, back in the days of 2e and TSR. This official website is the Mimir (www.mimir.net), a great reference run by a guy who unfortunately needed to get his doctorate. :)

Part 2: Because the Mimir didn't produce any more new material, the official website shifted to the active and boisterous Planewalker community (www.planewalker.com). A bit after this, stirrings of 3e were in the air.

Part 3: Planewalker pumps out a brainchild after 3e is released: PS3e. Although it's technically a fansite, hosted by a fansite, the contact with Wizards means that it's the most official fansite you can get. The idea to make something of an 'official 3e Planescape Setting' goes into the works. The high-ups on the websites start the gears turning, and, again, the contact with Wizards means that they get the 'official' stamp.

Part 4: It's not yet done...Part 4 is the eventual release of the 'official products.' Free, web-based material that has the stamp and the work of all of Planescape fandom's best and brightest, so to speak. It's not quite to the level of something like Ravenloft, but can be considered to be something like the Dark Sun site's conversion and presentation of material. Only, because of the nature in which we've done things, it's been a loooooong time in coming.

So, right now, PS3e hosts a bunch of 3e planescape material. And planewalker hosts a bunch of 2e PS material, and a LOT of flavor. And the Mimir holds all it ever has.

In the process of part 4, many of us grew a bit impatient, and started off on our own. Zachs' Kriegstanz site is part of that -- things that grew out of the discussion of what would happen with the official products. Another product of that will be my Philosophies and Falsehoods book (once the publisher talks to me again). I believe there's at least one other dude out there who's got his own thing going on. There's probably many more.

So, I believe that's the long, involved, and rather pointless history of official PS webdom. There will be a quiz in two days, containing a vocab section ("berk" "sod" "cutter"), a geography section (in what plane is Armoria located?), and a section on general philosophy (what is the core belief of the Primal sect?).

Good luck, class!

Heh, so there's a handful of "almosts", but no official stuff produced yet. Thanks for clearing that up Kamikaze!
