Oh, I dunno - nothing quite like an unplanned emergency, or an unintentional accident, like we say at work. Hey, if we can control the server-itis by inducing it beforehand (kind of like labor), I say go for it.
You know, it would be wonderfully ironic to schedule some "planned downtime," and then not bring the site down, so for the duration of the "planned downtime," you instead get "unplanned uptime."
I could make a joke about how similar ENworld and DF are to Greyhawk Cosmology, but I'd get lynched by a bunch of AD&D'ers wielding fauchard-forks and 6-turn torches...
