Planned novels to bridge the edition leap?

Just out of curiosity, and because I'm too lazy at the moment to do my own research, is WOTC planning to release any setting novels that will bridge the game from 3rd to 4th edition? I'm especially curious to see if there will be ficiton supporting the rather drastic change to the Forgotten Realms that has everyone so up in arms.

It may just be me, but I'd love to read about Elminster drooling into his soup, or Drizzt fighting his most feared adversary: incontinence!

That bridges the gap ? I don't think so. If I remember correctly the bad years of the Spellplague will be left sort of vague. But I doubt for very long. And both Elminster and our favorite dual weilding drow ranger are alive and well in 4E. Heck I expect even many more dual wielding draw rangers to pop up in the future.

C'mon, Craig. Any novel that preceeds 4th edition by just a few years can easily fill in the gaps. I'm sure that Greenwood will spew some pablum about Elminster that spans the intervening years, however superficially. I can even see the title: Elminster: The Lost Years. It's a guaranteed bestseller.

As for Drizzt, hasn't that keg been tapped dry? Surely he will not reappear post spellplague? Talk about beating a dead horse...er...Drow.

Chances of there not being anymore Drizzt novels are roughly nil. WoTC like that money too much. The latest series of novels are infact called 'Transitions', so whether or not they will fill in the gap between the current year (1375 DR) and the new edition (1479 DR) remains to be seen. At least, they might fill in the gap for Drizzt.

As Devyn mentioned, the Spellplague years are being left vague. There may be some novels filling the gap, but it's unlikely, as WoTC very rarely allow authors to set novels at times other then the current year (other then Salvatore, Greenwood or Cunningham)

As an aside, has it been confirmed that TWF is still a ranger schtick? Because I would really, really like that moved over to fighter or rogue or anywhere other than ranger.

In the latest Drizzt book, he's still around post-Spellplague 100 years afterwards. You can read about it in the previews on the WotC website.

[sblock=PLOT SPOILER PLOT SPOILER PLOT SPOILER]His friends, however, will not age as well. Cattie-Brie, for instance, chose the worst time to multiclass into Wizard. Wulfgar went back to the tundra, and I think Bruenor died of old age.[/sblock]

Am I misremembering, or did TWF get assigned to the Ranger class solely because of Drizzt? I've often believed that that particular fighting style was a ridiculous addition to a wilderness-based class. Why would a woodsman dual wield? Ridiculous! That is one of the reasons, among others, that I've harbored a secret and deep dislike for Drizzt.

Other reasons than just that, i'd say. Like Davie Crocket-grade indan tales.. two tomahawks and such. *Shrugs*

Don't hate the chap... he don't really even have much levels in ranger class.

What I was saying is that I have not heard about any novel that will "bridge the gap", not that there won't be any. From what I've read about the FR paperbacks that are coming out, most appear to be focusing on the state of Faerun after the Spellplague, not what happened during it.
