Plastic Coins?

Scribble

First Post
So I'm thinking of representing treasure in my game with plastic coins. I've found a few places that sell generic plastic "gold coins," but the others...

I'm thinking I'll probably just buy extra gold coins and spray paint them into the various coin types, then use a permanent marker to mark the exact denomination (so we don't have to actually use one million plastic coins to represent one million gold pieces, etc...)

Anyone out there doing this already? How's it working out?

I think the added tactile response of actually say, tossing a bag of coins on the table and stuff will add to the effect.

I used to have some goldf and silver coins that I got at some discount toy store. They worked well. It I were to do something like that again I'd also use paper money and maybe make paper coins using a PDF product. Or I'd do some research and try to find what country has the cheapest coins in US currency and then go to my bank and see if I can order some. :D

Yeah I have the fantasy money pdf thing... But I'm kind of more looking for the satisfying effect of tossing a bag filled with money on the table. :P

Interesting about the money from other countries... Wonder if I can find somewhere to get Pesos...

If you want to use real currency, just go to a bank that exchanges money for international travel. Odds are, though, they'll give you bills, not coins.

OTOH, you could check out a place that sells Mardi Gras dubloons, like this place:

Mardi Gras Outlet: Coins & Doubloons

Personally, I'd go for the aluminum ones for at least part of your stash- they actually have that nice metallic ring.

Yeah, probably if I get a high amount they'd go with the paper form, since a lot of countries do the coin as the "main" staple I think if I ask specifically for coins they would oblige... Although I've only ever exchanged money in the country I was exchanging too...

I looked into the Mardi Gras coins before posting- they might be the way I go.

I wish you could choose the colors, but alas...

Hardware store.

You can get metal washers for cheap, in lots of sizes and colors. Mixed with pennies, it sounds & feels like money in a coin purse, and looks more or less like coin when spread out on a table.

And other thingumbobs can be used as currency for other cultures, if the setting demands it. Stones, shells, beads, etc.
