Plastic Coins?

Hardware store.

You can get metal washers for cheap, in lots of sizes and colors. Mixed with pennies, it sounds & feels like money in a coin purse, and looks more or less like coin when spread out on a table.

And other thingumbobs can be used as currency for other cultures, if the setting demands it. Stones, shells, beads, etc.

Actually, washers & nuts is an excellent idea, especially when you compare them to actual ancient Asian coins. Many of them have square or round holes, or slots.

You could also try hard/shelled candies. Jelly Bellies alone come in hundreds of flavors. If you fear people eating them, get the crappy flavors, like popcorn or licorice.

No, make them the good flavors. In paranoia I use things like action points that we represent with good candy. If people want to eat their action points I let them. They just won't have any more action points if they do. It creates a nice temptation.

Do you have Dominion Seaside? My suggestion is get the Seaside expansion for Dominion, (thus having a great game) and use the coins that come from it. They are small, but have a nice feel in the hand.

This past summer I bought some gold pirate coins from Zellers that were part of the Pirates of the Caribbean merchandise line.

Might be hard to find now as I went back looking for more and had to hunt for them. But they're frikken awesome!

They're plastic so they're light weight and we use them for "Karma Points". They've turned out great.

And they were cheap. Something like $2-3 for a bag of 30-40.

Not bad!

Cheap poker chips are basically as inexpensive as the plastic coins pointed out above.

Quality ceramic poker chips aren't cheap, but they do have a nice weight to them. In addition, they have a nice, nearly metallic ring to them, and some may even have denominations on them.

Furthemore, you can often get customized ones...if you want to spend your money, that is.

Note that they have a variety of colors...some that could easily be called "silver" "gold" or "coppery."

Hmmmm...I bet, since they're a matte-finished ceramic, they'd take a nice coat of metallic spray paint!

Hell yeah!

And you could represent the 'bloodied' condition by throwing spaghetti sauce at your players.

It's a cop out to use spaghetti sauce.

I mean, real gold and silver coins are a bit expensive and hard to come by.

But all it takes to use real blood and guts to throw at your player's is a willingness to reduce your neighborhood's pet population!

(Kidding, of course!) ;)
