Platinum pieces in Trollhaunt

I went with a lower conversion rate explaining that, since they go out of the way to point out it's specifically Skalmad's own coinage, that it's not "pure" platinum, but mixed with lesser metals to make bigger coins for the large people that use them, thus put the per coin value below a 'normal' platinum piece.

Remember that giving away FAR too much wealth is a classic tradition for D&D modules. The DMG gives guidelines for "proper" placement of treasure which the adventure modules completely ignore. Its hard to believe this still suprises people after more than 30 years. :p

I have been running the adventures and they have been generally been OK with fitting in with the treasure parcels. If I was an adventure writer I would actually have taken it a step further and had a page listing all the treasure handouts throughout the adventure and their equivalent parcel in case DMs want to convert them. It also helps bookkeeping in case PCs skip certain encounters.

That being said it's pretty clear that as written the platinum is a mistake. Has there been any errata for this? The equivalent of 93,000 gps from a mostly minion encounter is pretty absurd.

I stand corrected. :) I had read something which implied that it brought the treasure totals to the correct points, but it looks like I was wrong!

Whew. Glad I found this out before we got to that part.

Unfortunately I have gotten to that point with the guard in the gatehouse encounter. The funny thing is that so far my players also assumed incorrectly that PP's were 10-to-1. It's hard to shake that mind-set I guess.

Or FAR too little :)
Well, it still irks me nobody has posted something along the lines of "the designers have officially apologized for their error, having posted errata online here or here".

Just because previous editions were sloppy is no excuse for this edition.

Is it really true they have remained silent on a whopper like this?! :erm:

I guess it doesn't bother me because I don't get many published adventures thanks to the monster builder. Still, not acknowledging errors and offering errata isn't good policy.

I'm a player and I haven't read any of the published adventures and haven't played through them. I say that to show that my question is based on hearsay and not on actual experience.

I've always heard that the published adventures are very light in the amount of magic items that are given out. Is it possible that the amount of cash is that is given out in this adventure to make up for the amount of actual magic items?

Some of the early ones were low-ish on treasure, so if you run the official modules I could easily see you heading into these a few thousand gold short... but it gives you a couple hundred thousand extra gold, as well as extra items, so... no, it's not making up for it.

As was answered earlier, twice. And described in the link given :)
