Player's Handbook II (long)

If they were going to do this (and I think it would be a good idea), I think they should go all out and include a PLETHORA of race options, too. Give us something new for the money. :)

Since race and class are pretty much the defining characteristics of a character, a book that combined them all together in one juicy compendium would be pretty close to the top of my to-buy-list...

See, what we really need is not a Player's Handbook II, but a Player's Encyclopedia that's 960 pages and has everything PC related: races, classes, prestige classes, equipment, spells, combat info, and psionics all rolled into one. :D

Then you could follow with the DM's Encyclopedia ("how to do x" magic items, etc.), and Monster Encyclopedia. Each would be 960 pages, full color, fully indexed, and sell for only $199.99 each (with CD rom inside to make it all electronic as well).

Splatbooks combined

Now ... if it contained all the errata, FAQ updates, and complete 3.5e conversions (as little as WoTC says there is to do) ... i'd get it just for the errata...

Hey ... this sounds like Splatbook v3.5E HB.

This is very similar to what JD Wiker and I did on the Hero's Guide for the Star Wars RPG. We wanted to create what essentially boiled down to a Player's Handbook for the line, drew inspiration from the style of the splatbooks, and then condensed it. We didn't quite have the page space to include everything we wanted (books on the Star Wars line are pretty restricted on page count due to licensing with LucasFilm) but I think it's a pretty solid effort. We'll see how well it sells when it comes out in June, though!

And I will be buying it the day it comes out. Love the idea, and am very thankful of the work you do.

I would buy something like this for D&D...I may have the splatbooks, but to have them all in one place and updated for 3.5? Wow! That would be wonderful...sadly, I don't think it'll be done. *sigh*

Will WoTC update splat books for 3.5e?

WoTC may have to 'update' the splatbooks in the future.

For example, RPGA now allows some of the prestige classes, feats, spells, etc found in the splatbooks in their Living Greyhawk campaign. Living Greyhawk is running v3.0 ... but i'm sure they're going to 'upgrade' to v3.5E in the future. And, when they 'upgrade', they'll need 'official conversions' of the items in the splatbooks.

Nothing is really official for RPGA until it comes from WoTC. So, maybe this is one reason they may do something like this ... BUT i really doubt they'll reissue all the splatbooks with a 'revised' moniker ... that would really anger folks.

I kinda like the idea, but I would do it differently. See, what I need is to have all the different functions in separate books. I would buy a book that was just spells. Then when my wife needs to look up a spell, she doesn't lose my place open to grappling. Some things could go together, things that aren't looked up nearly as often. Spells, classes and magic items all need their own books.

I haven't bought anything outside the three core books (although I am buying 3.5), but I would buy something like that. One of things I hate about the idea of splatbooks to begin with is the way it makes everything impossible to find and difficult to integrate. I think the book of spells would especially do well, because there really aren't enough spells for some specialists, at least functional everyday spells.
