Playing a blind character

Three_Haligonians

First Post
I'm going to be playing a blind character in my next game, in which we are starting at 6th level. I'm planning on playing a monk, and taking Blind Fight immediately. What I would eventually like to end up with is Blind Sense or Blind Sight. Any suggestions on how to get these? I know there are magical items, but I don't know what they are. I am most interested in finding a non-magical way of getting these abilities, though.

I have access to lots of books, but don't know where to begin! Help!

Thanks

There is, Blindfold of true darkness (Blindsight) in Magic Item Compendium. It costs only 9,000 gp and if your DM allows to buy it, that is well within the starting wealth for a 6th-level character.

For non-magical method.

Hear the Unseen feat in Compleat Adventurer (not so good but useful sometimes)
Dragon Disciple prestige class gives you (Ex) blind-sense at 5th-level.
Scout class gives you (Ex) Blind-sense at 10th level and (Ex) Blindsight at 20th-level.
Dungeon Delver prestige class (CompAd) gives you (Ex) blind-sense with limited time and number of use per/day.
Or, you can be a druid instead and shape into a dire bat or other creature which does not rely on eyes.
I guess there will be much more if you look further.

How about taking a race with Tremorsense? But really, what's the point of taking a character with a disability if you're going to spend all your effort obviating it? Isn't taking such a character going to cause huge problems for the DM too?
