Are there any published rules for playing undead in 3.5? If so, where?

What are you thoughts on playing undead characters in 3.5?

Is Mouseferatu really undead?

It mentioned it quite a bit, I coulda sworn it had a whole about half chapter dedicated to the subject. I am at work so cannot look it up. I really need to start bringing my books to work LOL of course that might give away my surfing addiction. :uhoh:

Not a whole chapter, just a few pages. There are monster classes for ghoul/ghast, mohrg, mummy, vampire spawn and wight.

Right after 3.5 Dragon also ran an article on half-undead in 313. I find half-undead terribly silly and wouldn't be able to take an adventuring party with one seriously, but I think I'd be more open to an actual undead PC. This is probably largely due to playing video games with a token angsty undead with a heart of gold.

Dragon 322 also had 3 different shadow template monster classes, at least one being undead.

Mythic Races by fantasy flight games has an undead race that basically gets the basic undead package and nothing else, I forget what the LA is. They have a feat they can take for turn reistance.

The MM/srd has rules for what happens if you are turned into a vampire and LA stats for playing one from the start.

I used a wight template I wrote for Penumbra Fantasy Bestiary for a player who got turned into a wight in my campaign and it worked well, but that was in the beginning of 3e before LA was a real mechanic.

The Book of Vile Darkness has a couple of templates, the corpse template and the bone template, so the character would become undead. The corpse, IIRC, has and LA while the bone template does not.

But then BoVD is 3.0, isn't it? Or is it? It's in another country right now, so I can't check.

I thought the rules in Libris Mortis seemed pretty helpful. I mean it was not horribly detailed but that would probably work considering an undead group would be kind of strange to deal with. My guess is that the GM and players are supposed to work a few things out on their own.
