[Playtest 2] Races: Humans too good?

Well, I see I wasn't the only one to find this a little imbalanced, though as stated, the true test of that will be in actually running this iteration.

However, on gut feeling, I think would rather see non-humans get +2 to one score and humans to get +1 to all.

I don't like this. Having a +1 bonus that you can assign to any ability score is powerful enough. I also dislike how boring humans now are. At least before they got a bonus feat and extra skills, now they're just... bleh. I don't understand why they don't give them an extra trained skill and a bonus feat in this edition.

Because they would have to provide two versions of each theme and background.

Well, this is exactly what we had for humans in the first playtest packet, so the big question is whether you found humans overpowered when you ran the first test. If you didn't even notice that the human cleric had this, then it probably means its doing okay.

And in terms of what getting these bonuses "gives you"... it's basically a small bonus to skills and saving throws. A few of your ability scores will end up being one mod higher than it would have been otherwise, and thus its a small skill and save boost. That's pretty much about it.

I have no idea what sort of mechanical implications it has, so I can't say whether or not it's overpowered, but from just looking at it I don't like it. It just doesn't feel right, for some reason or another.

The +2 is fine, but the +1 across the board is something I strongly dislike.

I think the stats is a mistake, really, and something like a bonuses to skills would be a lot better. Letting them have , say a +3 to skills, spread out how they want would do a good job of showing their versatility.

I don'r liike the +1 across the board. I think it's a placeholder until they release some human trait.
Humans can be as tough as dwarves (say, norses), as dextreous as halflings (say, eastern), and so insightful as elves (celtics or whatever). But being all of them *at the same time* and better, isn't really cutting it.

Why? Players get more skills as they go up in level anyway. I don't see how it would break anything to give humans an extra trained skill at 1st level. And I don't see how a bonus feat would break anything, either. You could still have your speciality you just have one extra feat on top of that that you pick.

I Nthink it shoehorns races in to using stereotypical weapons to "keep up". What if I want a Dwarf with a pick or a sword? Better take that hammer or you'll be behind the human. How about an Elf with an Axe? Take your pointy ears over to that sword/bow rack and pick yourself a weapon that you're supposed to slim.
