Playtest: The Lost City

the Jester

Legend
So yesterday I rolled up a party of four and started running them through the Lost City, B4.

The four pcs are:

Grumpy Grundy, dwarven thug survivor fighter.
Smurfette Bimboni, halfling charlatan dual wielder rogue.
Confusio, human priest healer... wizard.
Arcano Psychauto, high elf bounty hunter magic-user wizard.

So each pc was interesting and quick to create. Good so far.

FIRST DAY OF ADVENTURING: The pcs entered the ziggurat and worked their way through the uppermost tier and the second tier, slaughtering everything they encountered (Confusio is the only good pc, so the Bros of Gorm got stomped by Grumpy before any peace could break out).

During this first adventuring day, the pcs encountered a number of monsters that aren't in the playtest bestiary. I handled these by pretty much running them as presented in the module. Obviously, I had to decide things like attack and initiative bonus, but it wasn't too bad.

The Gorm Bros I treated as goblins; their leader, I treated as a goblin leader.

The giant geckos I ran as is, with the following notes/changes: Init +2; AC 14; atk +3 (1d8+2). I arbitrarily set their xp value at 200 each.

The pcs tore through their first day of adventuring with a net total of 9 points of damage to the party- all to the fighter, all in one blow (IIRC from one of the giant geckos).

Hauling off the loot, they had enough (after selling those fancy masks for half price) for both the fighter and rogue to upgrade to 500 gp armor, even with me tacking an arbitrary 50 gp/person round trip to town and back fee on.

So far, so good- and the better armor doesn't look like a game-breaker. But I haven't done Day 2 yet.
