Plots/ambushes gone wild...

Yay, new thread time!

Alright, this is inspired by the humor thread I started...

Plots that were good... that went wrong (for better, for worse, or for humor), I don't think any explaining needs to be done, but just in case.

I'm thinking ambushes/boss encounters/random plot traps that were drawn up nice, but thanks to the (great?) minds of our PCs were foiled somehow no matter how good/bad it was...

I start the thread with a dragon's lair. Well, the guys go in and after they get the whole lair clear except for 2 rooms, start plotting which to take. One room leads to what they suspect to be the dragon's room, the other, leads to either A. the room their companions are being kept, B. the room where the treasure is, or C. all of the above. Well, they guess right, grab their allies, and proceed to kick some dragon butt. Well, the dragon's room is huge, and as soon as they enter the doorway opening, deeper darkness. Woo. Well, one of the chars says "Don't worry, I can see." So they start scouting the room, and after searching the entire bottom of the room, find no draggie. So they spot a ledge. One PC says "He's probably sitting on the ledge ready to tear into anyone that pokes his head up" Only one way to find out, the tank jumps up there and sees.... no dragon. He hops back down, and they walk to a corner of the room and huddle together to plot some more. Perched right above them... in the darkness, like a gargoyle. Sits Mr. Dragon. To whom they haven't seen. After listening to their entire battle strategy, he says "Sounds, good, except for one thing." The PCs look up and get blasted in the face with a nicely rolled breath. They all died, and left me with many memories of gloating and laughter. :)
