Plots & Places

Why do you think the Plots & Places forum sees so little traffic, what makes it so unappealing?

Is it ...
the lack of structure/focus that most posters offer?
The lack of details provided in posts?
EN member are secrative about their ideas?
Too many clicks away from other boards you usually visit?

I would think it would be a popular stop, but I see very few postings and usually very vague questions that are uninspiring.

What do you think. If it were not late and I not so lazy, I would probably create a poll, but I will leave it open.

Too many clicks away from other boards you usually visit?

It's out of the way and doesn't bring in enough traffic. Since it doesn't bring in enough traffic, not enough new and interesting ideas get posted (and commented on) to be worth the "clicks" to swing by. Ah, positive network externalities!

I think all these sliver-sized boards make great sense for archives. But we don't archive much material, so it hardly needs sorting. For live material, you need enough eyeballs passing through that you can get some good feedback, and breaking every topic up into smaller topics just means you don't reach that critical mass that keeps things going.

And I really don't see why anyone in the General forum wouldn't want Plots & Places posts there.

Yup

I think that it is unused because in my experience Gamesmasters are unwilling to hand over detailed plot ideas where players may see them. I am about to run a Silverymoon Campaign and have no intention of sharing the information yet because at least one of the players frequents these boards also.

Why wouldn't we want Plots & Places discussed in the General RPG Discussion forum?

Because in most cases they would fall off the first couple of pages and would not be seen anyway. The other forums keep topics up on the first page longer.

Along the same lines:
Why is "Homebrew" in the "Creature Catalog Forums" and why is it dominated by monsters? heehee

I've always used the term homebrew to mean a setting that you created. That would seem to include "Places" if not "Plots & Places."

So if I want to share something about a unique geographical region and its peoples, in my homebrew campaign, should I post it in "Homebrew" or "Plots & Places?":(
