PlotStorming.com is amazingly happy to be part of Alliance of Creative Communities. The people at the Campaign Builders' Guild and the Cartographers' Guild are very friendly and their creativity knows no bounds. We've been thinking for some time about how we can bring our communities closer, and we came up with the idea of a sequential contest. Our individual August contests are the foundation for this month -- each Community will use the winning entries from another site in their September contest.
Keep an eye on the Alliance contests, they promise to be full of fantasy and RPG goodness!
The PlotStorming.com September Contest - Astounding Adventure
Adventure is the root of what brings many people to role playing games. The chance to become a swashbuckler, a fireball tossing mage, or an ax wielding berserker, and to brave danger that you'd never find in the modern world. Adventure drives many novels, you could fill a library with tales of quest for the unknown, treasure, and justice. Like role playing games, adventure stories open a window to a world full of danger, wonder, and excitement. The genre calls to us and allows us to escape.
The goal for September's contest is to take us on an adventure: either craft a quest for a stalwart band of rpg adventures, or present a tale of astounding adventure. As with other contest, there are plot points that must be featured in your entry. Namely the destination is set -- the Glass Ocean -- it was the first line of the cryptic clue found scratched on the back of a worn compass case:
the Glass Ocean
4th stone sentinel
205 steps WNW
Summary:
Format: Short Story [Short], or Adventure Synopsis [Adventure]
Concept: Feature the Glass Ocean and the other seeds in an adventure piece
Setting: The Glass Ocean (written by Luminous Crayon, the CBG's winner of the August 2007 Frontier contest)
Seeds: a compass (as created by RobA, the Cartographers' winner of the August 2007 A Rose By Any Other Name contest), with the following scratched on the back of its case:
the Glass Ocean
4th stone sentinel
205 steps WNW
Word Count: 1000 to 3000 words
Judging:
The judges for the contest will be the community. Creativity, originality, and quality will be the keys. The community will nominate the individual that created the best adventure set in the Glass Ocean using the required seeds.
If you're interested, please continue reading to see the complete rules and deadline information (September 27th).
Enjoy and good luck! The Glass Ocean Awaits!
