Pnumadesi Player's Companion - Free Download Through Sunday

Beginning today, and going through Sunday, I will be providing my 82 page short copy of the Pnumadesi Player's Guide by Northwinter Press (my current writing alias).

I've labored on this project for over a year, and it's about time I put something out for everybody to see just what I've been doing. I'm hosting the Player's Companion through 4shared. (I'll provide the link below).

Please, feel free to grab a copy and go through it. If you have any suggestions, critiques, or opinions, I'd very much appreciate hearing them. I haven't revealed everything from the setting with this free release, but its about time I let everybody get a chance to experience a world I've come to call my own.

SPECIAL THANKS to my Best of friends, Bud and Zaaron. The world was their original concept, and I'm so happy to have been made a part of it and allowed to help bring it to life for all three of us, and now all of you as well. Also a huge thank you to my wife, who put up with me working on my book for the better part of a year.

If I get decent enough reception, I'm hoping to use it as an argument with which I can approach an official publisher with the rest of my work and get something real going.

Pnumadesi Player's Companion[sblock=Back Cover Information]The center of the universe, Pnumadesi has been endangered many times throughout its history; from the splitting of the planes (and so too the continents), to the Second War of Elements and the return of the Xendauni.
This player's companion offers information on how to incorporate the majority of Dungeons & Dragons races and classes into the world of Pnumadesi. It also provides backstory and information on how to play 2 new races (The Xendauni and Vedros), as well as a new class (The Totemist) and a new class build suitable for any primal defender. Finally, enhance your games with new backgrounds, feats, rituals and magic items, all of which provide flavor for the world, but can be used on any plane.

On the continent in the middle of the cosmos, things are heating up, yet again.[/sblock]
Enjoy! -- Malcolm Northwinter

The following is copied over from my blog for those who prefer the forum. :)

[sblock=Summary and Review]Thank you everybody who's already downloaded the companion. I'm confident you won't be disappointed.

I wanted to take a moment and go over the sections as a review for anybody interested or on the fence about the setting.

- Introduction -
The Introduction of the book does exactly that, it explains the world of Pnumadesi and provides a world map to view, in addition to a map of the individual continents discussed in the player's companion.

- Races -
This chapter outlines how most D&D 4e races fit into the world of Pnumadesi. It also offers playable stats for the Vedros and the Xendauni. The third race, Ursaren are only summarized, and not detailed (so that I have a reason to include them in the final version when I get published).

- Classes -
Classes Starts with a brief explanation on the status of divinity in Pnumadesi. Although it exists, it's followed differently. The chapter then goes on to detail the sentinel; a new class build which is able to be overlaid on any primal defender class. Finally, the Totemist and Signature Powers finish the chapter. Like Ursaren, the Totemist is purposefully left undetailed. Signature powers are provided for each class available through the GSL, as well as the Sentinel and the Totemist. Rules for making signature attacks will be provided to DMs in the Dungeon Master's Companion.

- Paragon Paths -
20 paragon paths detail different philosophies and styles that higher level characters learn on this plane. Each Pnumadesi class gets 2 paragon paths, while each race gets 1. Existing character races and classes are given new options here as well, with paragon paths accessible to members of either a specific race or class (player's choice).

- Epic Destinies -
This first Pnumadesi companion has 3 available epic destinies tied to the world. Child of Destiny plays like a race-specific demigod epic destiny. The Magelord, though left undetailed, is for arcane characters taking an active role in the history of the world. Epic Destinies finishes with the Watcher, which is a fate offered to all heroes of Pnumadesi which some accept and others deny.

- Feats -
Character options includes over 40 new feats available to heroes in Pnumadesi and any world. Multiclass feats are also available for the sentinel and totemist. The biggest addition here are the racial progeny feats. Though mostly undetailed in the free copy, these feats allow a character to experience the myriad of racial variation on the continent. A racial progeny feat is available for each existing race, as well as the xendauni (which is detailed as a preview), vedros, and ursaren.

- Homelands -
The backgrounds of Pnumadesi are called homelands. Detailed is each country within western and eastern Pnumadesi, in addition to Pnumadeja.

- Rituals -
Several new rituals are available in Pnumadesi. Those detailed in the free copy are Extend Lifespan and Leviathan's Gait.

- Equipment -
Equipment offers up a healthy dose of magic items from several categories, as well as 2 new item-specific upgrades; Dusk-Wood weapons and Elemental Sheen Equipment. The published copy of the player's companion will also include nonstandard magic items, including the lesser gauntlets of brister.

- So, What's Left? -
Although 82 pages seems like a lot, it's really just a quick vacation to the wealth of information we've come up with for Pnumadesi. Future plans include getting the fully detailed player companion published, as well as the Dungeon Master's Companion, and putting the final touches on the first Expanded Content - Pnumadesi Player's Companion: Cas'Dilae and Yokaizi Deren.

- What do I want accomplished? -
I want to bring the world of Pnumadesi to life as a campaign setting. Putting this information out to promote the world is my first step in trying to get published. If I can get enough people to review the setting and give their opinion (hopefully good, but definitely honest is preferred), I can use that as leverage to approach a publishing company and seek real art/support.

Enjoy![/sblock]

Cool, I really wanted a way to be able to have the player characters be known for their particular attack. It would be good story to have them get in a fight in town and somebody recognizes the fighter because he did his patten one-arm crusher attack. Similarly, the enemy can try to track him down by looking for it. Knowing the heroes of the age plays a big role in the larger scheme of things on Pnumadesi.

Keep in mind, two fighters in the group doesn't mean they both have to pick the same signature attack detailed in the player's companion. The World Companion (dungeon master's companion) also provides guidelines for the DM who wants to help a player create his own signature move.

Only a couple hours left. I'll be pulling the download at Midnight, EST. Thank you again, to those of you who've downloaded it.

I'm now looking forward to reviews, in case you have something you'd like to share.
