POD Question

I have been looking at two sources for Print on Demand, LuLu and RPGMall's. For those that have seen either, or preferably both, what is your opinion on the quality of each.

I have used Lulu.com on six different books and I my customers seem to like them. They all say they were surprised in the high quality of the Lulu.com books.

We've (Dog House Rules) have been tempted to try out Lulu for some time and we will at some point since we keep hearing their quality is good. The one big benefit that I see to using Lulu is that it's true print on demand so you won't have to have an initial outlay of capital.

Do both those companies do their own printing, or do they outsource like most POD companies? Anyone know?

I do not know, but I assume they outsource the work.

I actually have books from both. The RPGMall ones look good, but at more than a casual glance, they do look a bit computer printer-ish. But they hold up well, and feel solid, and the ink doesn't run or anything. On par with the "average" non-WOTC quality RPG book printing, and better than the "budget" lines of companies like FFG/AEG (ie, like AEG's one word books or FFG's splatbooks).

Lulu.com's stuff, well, if not for the thing that says Lulu.com on them, you wouldn't know they were done POD. Really nice looking. About on par with the bigger (but still non-WOTC) companies "prestige" lines (as opposed to their budget lines).

So, while Lulu looks better, RPGMall is definitely acceptable.
