I avoided dealing with aspects of the darkness other than human(oid)s in this post because my word count was already pushing 3000, and I didn't want to try the patience of ENworld readers too much. But you've got some excellent ideas about dealing with non-human(oid)aspects of the darkness. In particular, your points concerning the role of the divine in averting disaster has a very medieval/ancient flavour to it that I really like.
