POLL: d20 Campaigns and Your Perspective

Fast Learner

First Post
The d20 Fantasy Campaigns poll is now open and your perspective is needed!

You specify which campaigns you're familiar with and then rate things about them in 6 different categories: Familiarity, Functionality, Atmosphere, Magic, Classes, and Races (a total of 14 ratings per campaign). You're also invited to add any comments about the poll at the end.

You're welcome to answer some now and others later if you prefer, and obviously please only rank the features of campaigns you're familiar with.

NOTE: As of this post I'm the only one who's answered any of the poll questions so the results are pretty sparse. As more folks respond the results will be more interesting.

You put a lot of thought into this, and it shows -- very cool idea, and nicely executed. Thanks for setting this up, Fast Learner.

One question: on questions like "What role have you taken with the setting?" does choosing "5" mean you've done both equally often? That was my assumption, and that was how I voted on the survey.

Thanks! I got some help from the community here, too!

That was my plan... maybe I'll adjust the instructions a bit to make it more clear.

Ok, we're at a dozen respondents now and the results are getting to be more interesting. When we hit 100 I'll be adding a feature where you can specify what you'd like in a campaign setting and the system will give you the closest matches.

Just took it for FR, Greyhawk, and Rokugan...I really like how you set it up. Definatly will look great when there are lots of responses. I'll be sure to pass along the link to my players.

Interesting. I discovered I don't know much about all that many campaign settings...

I found that to be the case as well.

"I've got all sorts of experience -- I should be able to check off a bunch of...oh, wait...no, really, I can only check off two." Ah well. :D

Fascinating poll! I have to admit, when I saw your first posts to develop this, I had no idea what to expect, but this thing is really first class, and really interesting to read the result to boot! Need to round up more responses, though -- I'd like to see this actually be statistically significant. :)

Agreed!

As of now we have 36 respondents. I've posted it a bit on a couple of other boards, but anything y'all can do to spread the link would be great. If we get over 100 responses it will (for some of the more popular campaigns, anyway) start to become statistically significant, I think, though I don't know what percentage of the d20 campaign-playing population that is.

The link is: http://www.genimuse.com/polls/campaigns/

The key -- I hope -- is that it's not intended to be a popularity contest so there shouldn't be too many people "throwing" the results. It does use a cookie to see if you've responded to a particular campaign before (and simply replaces your responses if you have), but obviously such measures only work for people who aren't up to anything. Still, it's no indicator of which campaign folks might consider "best" -- just how they're perceived.

The results page is pretty big, so here's a smaller one that just displays the campaigns with the highest number of responses to date (Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Ravenloft, Rokugan, and Scarred Lands), all with at least 10 responses. You can also change which ones are displayed by using the little form at the bottom of the page.

It's still a 209k page, but at least it's not the 700k you get when you view all of them. (Before long I'll add a question-by-question browser so the pages can be reduced to a reasonable size.)
