Poll: Do you allow non-slotted CWI items?

all magic item creation is subject to my stringent approval. they can be made, but I will veto anything that looks like a problem and abused items can develop curses :)

We use what we call the "Charm Slot". It's where you put your broach of shielding, token of Fortunate fate etc. It's not so much a realistic slot (ie gloves) it's a practical limitation on MIs.

You mean, like the slot for "1 amulet, brooch, medallion, necklace, periapt, or scarab"?

Personally, I can agree with where you're coming from, Nifft. But for convienance and bookkeeping reasons I don't really bother expanding on the list of limited item slots. Like you said, held item could be considdered a slot in one way, so could ear - two earrings, same as two rings. Or maybe make it one pair of earrings. Or a pants slot to go with the shirt/vest/etc. If you wanted to, you could cook up a more detailed list of how many whats can go where.

Further, it brings up possible issue with multi-armed (or multi-manipulatored) creatures. For example, a thri-kreen has 4 arms, but unless it takes the Extra Item Space feat, it still only has 2 ring slots. If Held is a slot, does it scale upward with the number of arms? Or is it limited to one or two items? Can a large item that requires both hands to use be considdered to be taking up multiple item spaces and thus be in need of a cost reduction?

Like I said - for convienance reasons I leave the slots as-is.

^_^

Yes, for double the cost of a slotted item. This is no more open to abuse than letting a slotted item have multiple enchantments, really.

Yeah, but crafting items is limited in general.

That is, you cannot craft any item you imagine, if it doesn't really sit well, which is mostly the case with unlimited/continuous items that resemble spells.

But, as long as the item doesn't seem to break anything, I have no problem with paying extra for slotless. It's usually more expensive than adding abilities to existing items, too.

Not really. Amulets, medallions, necklaces, and periapts are all covered by the necklace slot. A shield once a day brooch keeps your cloak on, so we rationalized that it shouldn't take up the Periapt of Wisdom slot. A medal that heals you once a day would be a charm.
