Gotta disagree with you on this one, O Keeper of the Original Boxed set.

The worst depiction of D&D the world has ever seen was rendered by Jack Chick. Not only did it get the mechanics wrong, it portrayed it as a tool of Satan.

But the most egregious misrepresentation was the amount of women playing the game! :p

see you prove the poll is broken too.

i try and suppress the JC material as much as i can from my memory banks.

to paraphrase: it was your fault Black Leaf died... Francie

God, I loved that cartoon. :) I watched it at age 12 to 13, and loved it. Where else are you going to get stuff like:

Eric: Presto, DO something!
Presto: uh... uh... ABRA-KA-DAVY! United States Navy!
*Aircraft carrier appears and scares away the monsters*

EXCEPT in a gaming session from the 1980's? :)

Heh. I remember distinctly being annoyed at them several times, for not making better use of their items. Yeah, I loved that cartoon, too.

Sorry to say it, but the cartoon was indeed way off the mark when it came to actual DnD. Barring that weirdness at the end of the movie, the movie did an okay job of being set in a DnD world.

Like it or not, the best depiction was the movie.

I haven't seen the DnD movie, but as bad as I'm sure it is, it's hard for me to believe it beats Mazes and Monsters (starring Tom Hanks!) as the worst depiction of "true DnD."

it is worse than Mazes and Monsters.

i own Mazes and Monsters.

i refuse to buy the D&D Movie.

the dnd movie wasn't good, that's for sure, but i have something against cartoons in general, so i voted the cartoon even though i never saw it.

the d&d movie is one of the worst movies of all time with absolutely no redeeming qualities.
how the cartoon got any votes i have no idea.

what was up with the movie? 2 rogues and some other people who they never even got the names of who have no idea whats really going on? how is that anything like d&d?

the cartoon had a diverse party with a meta-plot (find a way home) that would keep getting into different adventures, either because they were attacked or they thought it might give them a clue or because they were just trying to do a good thing. whenever they were stumped, some short bald guy who wasnt part of their group would give vague cryptic hints to point them in the right direction. Plus Tiamat and Venger are great bad guys.

maybe the animal companion/familiar was overly cute, but that happens on occasion in the game too.
and the violence thing? c'mon. picking on the lack of violence in the cartoon would be like picking on the movies awful SFX. dont bash them because of the constraints of the medium they were working in.

Ouch. Those poll options are asking me whether I'd rather have my hand stomped on, or my foot stomped on.

Foot, please.
