Would you consider paying for a place to play D&D?

Say if it were to have good lighting, ample space, air conditioning, a communal bulletin board, comfy chairs, big table, a reference library, etc., etc.

And assuming the price would be minimal/reasonable per player.

No, I actually perfer to play at people's houses in a nice relaxed setting.

You might say I already have. We finished our basement and outfitted one room with bookshelves explicitly for the purposes of gaming.

I'm playing for a place much like that right now. By my estimation, it's about $30,000 of the house.

I have seen this idea tried, both as a private enterpise and as a club. None of the businesses survived, but I know of a few clubs that were able to find cheap space and rely on a handful of members at 30-$40 each.

There have been times when no one in the group had anything much larger than a 1-bedroom apartment, and that with small living space. Under those conditions we had to go scrounging for gaming space.

So, yes, under the right conditions, and given a really good set up, I'd certainly consider renting game space.

I would consider this if it made the meeting more convenient for the majority and if ground rules were enforced for personal clean-up. Also the space would have to be private, not shared with other groups so stuff does not 'Walk'....

I'd consider it if 1/ the mood is there (like having rooms looking like a medieval pub, lots of apparent wood, with candles, dim light etc... NOT just art on the walls), 2/ you can eat/drink, with actual pub orders, coffee etc possible 3/ it isn't closing at 6 PM 4/ the fee is a price per table, much like for pool games, rather than per individual.

It would have to be an outstanding place with a staff I'd like to socialize with.

Parks, forest and porches are good enough for my group (except in winter when we try to go in doors). I'd consider paying for a space however paticuarly in very hot/cold weather.

I know a whole bunch of people making rather long trips to play various SF games at various points around South London. A lot of the players/games don't last too well, and journeys over an hour or so are sometimes a factor. It seems to me that most of the problems would go away if we had a venue at Clapham Junction railway station, which is connected to most of the known universe, so yes...

But it doesn't have to be anything fancy.
