We have all of that now in our group's current space - in Toronto.

If for some reasons that space became unavailable? I'd rethink.

I might also use such a space for another group. So yeah - I'm interested.

I'm not a cheap guy. As gamers go though, given past comments on ENWorld about whether somethign is worht the money or ot - I think it's pretty clear I'm not in the majority.

Given the right set-up, sure, I'd play for a nice clean space to play in. Playing at people's homes is all well and good, but one person's definition of "clean and ready for company" can be much much different than another's.

I remember back in the day playing AD&D and Warhammer campaigns in a buddy of mine's apartment. He was a talented and creative GM. He had all the books, he had all the accessories, he had all the tools needed for a good night of gaming. He also had 2 ferrets. Ugh. The stink would make your eyes water. It got to the point that I could not take it anymore and we as a group basically had an intervention. Instead of cleaning up his funky apartment, we just decided to game at the back room of a local restaurant that one of the gang managed. It was unwieldy to lug a bunch of books and maps around, but at least I could breathe freely.

Would I have paid $5 a week not to smell the ferrets but still have a teriffic time gaming, you betcha.

I voted perhaps, but only because of a speciic issue our group has encountered.

One of our group is confined to a wheelchair due to a medical condition.

You would be amazed at how hard we have found it to be to find a place to play that is handicapped accessible.

Those places that are have not wanted us to play there and those places that are willing to let a group play are not accessible.

Personal homes are not designed for someone in a wheelchair unless a family member is in one.

In this case the players home is not really designed for access in much of the house, and he really doesn't have the space for 9 people to game in the portion that has been made accessible for him.

For the last 2 years we have played at a local campground in the summer, and the disabled player has gone on break during the cold Vermont winters.

That is not the ideal situation, but nothing better has come along yet. :(

Maybe when I remodel my home I will put in a handicapped accessible bathroom and my friend will be able to play year round.

My friends all paid by helping me remodel my garage. We dropped in A/C & Heating, insulation (yes the garage door is insulated too), rough-electrical, hung drywall, taped - texture - sand (repeat), paint, epoxy the floor, hung lighting, built a groovy game table, shelves, two whiteboards (one for the DM & one for the players), etc.

To be clear, they didn't pay with money, the paid with sweat.

Now we have a great place to play.

Though I am considering dropping in a projector/pc.

In my situation, since I do not need to, as there are plenty options to play in a nice enough place, no, of course not.

But, if this was not the case, and the price was reasonable enough, then sure, why not?

Bye
Thanee

I've always been able to find pretty decent places to play for free, so I don't think I would pay for space. If it had a digital projector for maps, etc. (the famous "best gaming setup evar"), I would consider paying something like a couple of dollars a month.

Is that upstairs at the SciFi Cafe? I used to game there, circa 1998 - 2000 or so. It was a nice space at the time; it may have been taken over by CCG rugrats now....

This would be my take on this as well. The place would have to offer something I couldn't get for free at my own home. Otherwise, it would be a no.

It would either have to have an incredibly evocative atmosphere, some killer stuff that I can't get/don't have at home, or both. I wouldn't pay for a table, chairs, and AC...but I might pay for a projector, or a place that looked like a castle, or something like that.

The more elaborate, the more likely it is to get my dollar(s).
