You know, most of the people I know who game in cramped, uncomfortable quarters do so because it's all they can afford. Those who have nicer places to game are the ones who can afford to pay for a space to play in, but already have adequate facilities, and don't need to pay for them.

I might consider it, if no other place could be found to play. My main considerations would be the size of the place and the number of the games being run in it. I've gamed in places with multiple games going and it's very difficult to enjoy a game when you can't hear anything that's being said.

A *reasonable* fee? Sure. As long as I get to decide what's reasonable.

It would have to be quite amazing to be worth more than $5 though...

Say if it were to have good lighting, ample space, air conditioning, a communal bulletin board, comfy chairs, big table, a reference library, etc., etc.

And assuming the price would be minimal/reasonable per player.

I might pay for play space. In fact a not so friendly (IME) local game store does charge $5 US per session. I prefer my FLGS though-- he has a decent set up (chairs tables and some minis junk) food is very near and he doesn't charge. Instead I order almost all my gaming stuff through the store -- its an indirect payment instead. I like this better because if one of my players is short we can still game

You betcha! With a wife, twin 3 year olds, and a seven year old, I want out of the house! I wouldn'y mind paying $5 - $6 a month for nice sofas, a fridge for snacks, a table, comfy chaors (including bean bags).

JME, but going to anothers house always seems to inconvience someone... :(

No, I don't think I would pay a fee. If I was going to pay money I would probably just invest in tricking out a real gaming room at my house.

I used to pay when the Adventurer's Inn was still around in Knoxville, TN. The dues were about $20 a month and we all chipped in. It made for a good place to just go and get away from it all, even if you didn't game that night. Unfortunately it is now closed. I miss it.

I used to. It was called the Studio of Bridge and Games. It had a small front room, 20 x 80'?, a large back room, 120' x 80'?, and a closed off confrence room that was sound-proofed and with comfy chairs, 12 x 20'?. There were as many folding tables, card tables and folding chairs as you needed. There were some games for sale, as well as dice, but the selection wasn't very good. Bathrooms and a kitchen were also available, and they served tea, coffee, and fairly bogus snacks. The price was $2.50 per session, which ran from 10-6 and from 6-2 am. DMs were free (minimum table of 3 players).

Saturdays were fairly packed, there were a few Sunday afternoons and Thursday nights. The center ran a minor convention in the spring where you stayed all weekend and a major convention in the fall that came to be hosted elsewhere.

It was a fun time. There were 20-40 people at any given session, about half were 14-20, the rest were older. At most there were 6 games running at a time. The main owner was a cranky son-of-a-gun, but the other people were nice. It was a great exposure to the gaming community. I had never heard of games like RuneQuest, Twilight 2000, Space Opera, Traveller... I met some great people (like Cerebral Paladin's pal, Reynolds) and was exposed to a wide range of people, from saints to scoundrels. Got a couple of dates out of it too.

Now, that's when I was 15-18 yrs old. I wouldn't do such a thing now, given I have a family with a young child. But, there were other older adults there.

Edit: You know, now that I have been reminising, I think it was $1.50 per session. It was about 20 yrs ago, hard to remember.
