I am well aware of the other mecha games out there. But keep in mind that I've only gotten into the genre in the past coupla years, and I've never played in a mecha game before. The only system that I already know that handles mecha is BESM, and that's probably what I'd pick if I wanted to start a quick-and-easy game of Mecha Soldiers Alpha Zeta! or something. However, A d20 mecha game would satisfy a slightly different desire: tactical mecha combat. Like I said, I'd like to set up a really big table (possible multiple tables put together) and build an alien battlefield to play on.
That said, I must admit that Mecha Crusade isn't nearly as shiny on closer inspection. There are several editing errors, (frex, I really doubt that the Wing Commander gets a +34 reputation bonus at 10th level,
) and there are a few places where the wording of rules isn't very clear. nevertheless, with a little work this could be expanded into a pretty nice d20 mecha combat add-on. And since I really like to tweak d20 rules, I may just do that.
And I'm really sore at having missed the call for players in Jarval's Mecha Crusade PbP game.
But my day will come, oh yes!
