Polymorph: A Thought

Personally, I'm just content eliminating it from the game. As if wizards have nothing else to do but polymorph. Take polymorph away from spellcasters and they're still loads of fun to play. And ... the game becomes much simpler.

While you're at it, take away the shapechange feature from the druid, too. Instead, give them something akin to rage where by focusing on an animal they gain enhancements to their physical or mental abilities ... but they don't actually become a new creature.

and yes ... shouldn't this be in house rules? :)

Well, technically this is the D&D Rules Forum and this thread is about D&D and about Rules.

It doesn't say explicitly, that it is not about House Rules, and House Rules are Rules, too, right?

You can't flurry with those because new books are not special monk weapons or unarmed strikes.

I hear that there is a feat in Complete Scoundrel (Rules Fu) that allows them to be used as monk weapons.

Careful, to more than a few posters here on this sight these are fightin' words.

That's like saying the Errata is part of RAW or something ....

Or better yet, that the FAQ is part of RAW! :D

Ah, but those letters overlap, they don't stack.
:D Infiniti FTW!

My recommendation is to use Rich Burlew's excellent polymorph rules. I've used them as a high-level druid for several levels.

DOWNSIDES:
1) Shapechange is significantly less powerful, as is changing into an elemental form.
2) It is a royal pain in the keister to write up a new form.

UPSIDES:
1) Shapechange is significantly less powerful (it's still amazingly awesome, and I can't imagine how it's balanced under RAW).
2) You get to keep a lot of the flavorful aspects of being an animal--e.g., having blindsense as a bat.
3) Your physical stats and your level both matter when you shapeshift.

I really like these rules a lot, other than the large amount of bookkeeping they require.

You should look at Rich Burlew's Polymorph rules. They can be found in two parts:
You can tell that I haven't turned to the dark side because I'm not just deleting your post and am instead shaking my fist at you and shouting, "KHAN!!!!"

You do a much better job of explaining why they're so good, though. :P
