Polymorph into a dragon

Once upon a time I wanted to polymorph into a dragon. Problem was, I didn't know how this would be handled. My guess was that I would polymorph into the dragon age category that was equivalent to my age, so I couldn't do it because of size(I was an elf). Anyone know if this is right?

From the SRD:

The new form can range in size from Diminutive to one size larger than the caster’s normal form.

Since you are an elf (Size M), you could only polymorph up to Young Adult (Size L).

Yes, I know that. What I'm asking is how I determine what age category I would be in. I think that would depend on my actual age, but it is also possible that I choose what age category I fit into when I polymorph. Which is it?

An elf does not polymorph into a dragon of the same age. Treat the different age categories as different creatures you can polymorph into. You can choose any dragon of any age category that you meet the HD and size conditions for.

Nono, I wasn't trying to say you were being rude, SamuraiY, I was trying to point out that your question had already been answered, and you passed right over it. Young Adult is the age category you were looking for.

To be more precise - the dragon age category that you polymorph into depends a little upon what *type* of dragon you change into - gold dragons are bigger at a given age than white dragons, for instance. IIRC you cannot turn into anything with more than 14HD, but you'd have to check that up.

The spell will let your elf turn into a M or L sized dragon (or smaller, of course). You could become up to a Young gold dragon (size L, 14HD. The Juvenile is also size L but has too many HD).

The white dragon is the smallest, but the young adult white dragon normally has 16HD, so that might be excluded on the grounds of the HD limit.

to tell the truth Polymorph has been errate'd so many times it is a job trying to work out what the current info is supposed to be!
