Back to the original question...
According to the spell description:
"The new form can range in size from Diminutive to one size larger than the subject's normal form."
So it seem that you can polymorph a Vorpal Scimitar into anything from a Vorpal Greatsword to a Vorpal Pocket knife. (As long as the Pocket knife is from 6" - 12") In the words of Crocadile Dundee, "That's not a knife. This is a knife!
