Porting to CC2

I pretty much lack any ability when it comes to computers. I've been toying around with Campaign Cartographer 2 and rather enjoy its simpler functions. However I've been running a campaign in a world based off a map I found on the internet for a couple of months now. The map picture is a jpeg picture. Is there anyway to open the picture in CC2 to alter/modify the map or add markers, etc.?

Not really, no. A .jpg is like a photo, one cohesive image, unlike your CC files which are collections of layers and objects that can be manipulated seperately.

That said, you can probably use the .jpg (depending on its size) as a background layer in CC2, and then add markers on top of it. You could also overlay different terrain, but I don't think the result would be very satisfactory, and it could be quite time consuming.

Convert the jpeg to bmp and you can insert it into a cc2 file as a background and then either trace over the whole thing with cc2 eventually deleting the background original, or simply add objects over the top of it.

cc3 would give you more options, or at least make modifications easier, such as slicing out bits of the original map and making symbols and fills out of them.

how

exactly how do I open the picture in CC2? When I go to File then Open, I can only open CC2 related or CAD related files. Could you please explain how exactly I go about the process you mentioned (tracing over it in another layer)? thanks!

Insert-->Insert Picture. Browse to the .bmp you want to insert, select one of the picture options (Stretch to Fit, Align Top Left & Clip, Scale to Just Fit Inside, or Tile to Fill & Clip), and check (or uncheck) the "Hide Picture Outline" box. Click "Ok", then drag out the rectangle you want the picture in.

As an aside, you probably will want to make sure the bitmap has it's own layer so you can remove it from view, or show nothing but the bitmap.
