Possible ebay piracy?

All legal matters aside, how the hell is this moron going to get a 44mb file to most email inboxes?? I know my main inbox has a 3mb limit and I think the single-file limit on even a gmail account is like 7mb (though Im not positive about that one).

He's not, of course. If he could do that, he couldn't charge money (for the CD, of course, not the product, because that would be illegal).

All--

Thanks very much for the heads-up on this. I've passed the info on to our legal department; they usually get these things shut down within a few hours, if not minutes. I've also notified our Customer Service department, so that we can make it easier to report piracy like this without wading through the online knowledge database.

In the mean time, if you ever want to bring piracy (or anything else for that matter) to our attention, you can't go wrong by posting it to the D&D General board on the WotC boards. (Tag your subject line with "[WOOF!]" to be sure to get my attention.)

Thanks again!

No problem, and will do!

Heh - this guy currently has 19 different ebooks up for auction. Anything from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to "Fast Cash Generators for Business" by Jay Abraham. I'd hesitate to guess how many of them are actually *legal*.

Download ebook on P2P network, sell unlimited copies on eBay... "Fast Cash Generator" indeed!

Well, considering that you can download Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy for free legally (with the stipulation that you cannot distribute the files for profit)...

The one in which he legally baught the PDF and is reselling it.

This might not be the situation, but if it was the situation, he'd be fine.
None exists and if it did he couldn't resell it.

Your perspective, therefore, would be best described as "being wrong". There is no grey area involved.

No. As I understand it (and I don't claim any great knowledge in this area) he's allowed to make a copy for backup purposes for his own personal use. It's illegal to sell or otherwise distribute any copies that he's made, no matter what happens to the original.

Actually, No. Not under Australian Law. We have no 'fair use' down here.

Contrary to popular opinion, it is ILLEGAL to ‘backup’ CD/DVDs or even scan/photocopy books in Australia (but people do it all the time). But the government is looking at changing this in the near future...

We do, however, have some leeway in regards to region coding. For example, it is now LEGAL to chip a Playstation or DVD player to run internationally purchased copies. This too, may be changed in the near future, to comply with some aspects of the free-trade agreement with the US.

Odd. I have only limited experience with Ebay myself, so I don't know how hard it would be to forge/create multiple accounts (or if such could be tracked via ISP by the people who run Ebay), but based on the comments, and on some of the stores of people leaving comments, I wouldn't be surprised if this guy was creating multiple accounts for himself, and giving himself excellent ratings. Kind of looks that way to me, on a preliminary glance through.
