Post Playtest Questions for DDXPers.

Actually, the biggest issues I forsee with 4E (and there aren't many) is this no-barrier-to-at-will-magic-users issue. (The others are the fey pact warlock + bag of rats/kittens/snakes/cockroaches/whatever teleporting wherever they want and the difficulties in trying to not let the more abstract nature of hp throw off suspension of disbelief).

You obviously never had a dedicated player try this without magic. An adamantine weapon in 3.X ignores hardness below the ridiculous level. I literally cannot count the number of times a door/lock/whatever met it's doom at the hands of a rogue, fighter, ranger, etc, with a heavy adamantine mace. Or, as one barbarian called it "My wand of Knock". We're not even talking about a primary weapon here, since at mid to high levels, this was an affordable item. Sure, you can wave your Dm wand, and say "the superhard metal breaks randomly, because I don't want you to be able to tear down this wall" But you can also say "your magical energy reserves are depleted after fifteen minutes of solid blasting, now you have to go sit down for a bit." Especially since the latter is very unlikely to come up in a combat situation. Or you could add hardness to the wall. or whatever. If anything, it's easier to stop a spellcaster, even one with at will abilities, than it is to stop the guy with a big hammer.
