Les Foster here (your convention demo DM). I can loan you the books if you want. And you could do anything you want with them (within reason). Just return them when you're done.
Far too many. I could see having a 64 page book on familiars, and maybe even a 96 page book on familiars. But 190 pages? Good lord! I wouldn't mind buying this book if it's done right, but I don't want to pay $35 for it! I mean, it is just familiars after all.
I was team lead for the Netbook of Familiars at the FanCC for a brief stint, and I don't think any of us ever anticipated that that book would ever be very large. Don't know if that project died, or not.
I thought I read somewhere that the book would also include expansion rules for steeds and animal companions. If you add in those features I think the page count can get out of control pretty easily. There must be all sorts of nifty bits you can add with steeds.
I think there are nearly 500 varieties of fleas (stat bocks) and nearly twice as many ticks....
There are animal companions, warhorses and steeds of all types and makes - the difficulty is actually in maintaing control of such... there is a lot that can be done with this.
i think the title is a little misleadin - we just wracked our heads for a better one but this seemed to at least get the central grasp of the concept...
But it covers animal companions also...
Mixmaster, thanks for the offer but I think we should (???) be able to afford these and it supports our local retailer (plug plug)
A battle ooz companion for pixies - how does that sound??
