Practiced Manifester?

Is there any reason a 'practiced manifester' feat would be broken?

It would be the psionic equivalent of Practiced Spellcaster from complete divine- your caster level is considered four higher, up to a limit of your HD. So multiclassed psions, wilders, etc could spend more power points to augment, etc.

I think it's broken because of overchanneling. I wouldn't allow that in my game.

I think its generally weak, since you have to pay to augment the power, while spellcasters get level based stuff for free.

Though, some augmented powers are the equivalent of higher level spells, so it could be broken with some particular powers, even though they would require a lot of pp.

Yes, I thinks it's broken. Mainly because of the way most of the augmentations work.
A lot of powers are relatively low-level, but become the equivalent of high-level spells
when you augment them (increased effects, higher DCs, more targets, etc).
In this way, a relatively low-level power can compete with high-level spells by being augmented
to the appropriate number of power-points/spell level equivalent.

In conclusion: I think that allowing the PSP cap to be as if they were (max) 4 manifester levels
higher is equivalent to allowing spellcaster to treat some of their spellslots as if they
were 2 levels higher (and give them some extra spells known to use them)

That would be much too powerful for Practiced Spellcaster, and is thus too powerful
for a possible Practiced Manifester feat.

YMMV

Yep, that's the whole problem, it would effectively give them access to powers of a higher level (Overchannel also does this, which is kinda bad, even with the HP cost, tho it limits it at least slightly), since they are often included in the lower versions.

For example, a Psion 5/Whatever 4 with that feat could manifest Astral Construct like a 5th level power with 9th manifester level.

Of course, since this character would not have the PP of a 9th level psion, it would be even more draining, but the option is there.

I'd maybe think about a feat, which scales all scaling properties of powers, but does not allow additional augmentation, that is... range, duration and so on would scale, also the ability to penetrate Power Resistance, but no additional augmentation should be possible.

That would (obviously) be a bit weaker than Practiced Spellcaster, therefore one could drop the +4 level restriction and simply allow it to scale up to full HD then.
