Pratchetts Discworld Story Poll - what is best in life?

Mr Tulip is my favourite Discworld character. A thug with a speciality in Fine Art appreciation, a habit of snorting any that’s ‘ing chemical and another habit of putting ‘ing before every other word. Such a good example of how three interesting easy to roleplay facts can make an interestingly memorable character.

Aren't Mr Tulip and Mr Pin parodies of Jules and Vincent in Pulp Fiction?

I also like the Truth because like the best Pratchett it has a strong satirical message.

Given that Pratchett was a journalist for many years, I reckon The Truth is probably his most personal, "speaking from lived experience" novel.

I found this hard to choose. I went with Thud, but I was surprised there were no votes for Thief of Time as that’s one of my runner ups. I have much fondness for Monstrous Regiment and Small Gods (which I use as much of the basis of how deities work in my fantasy RPGs). And while I don’t think they’re the best, I always found Hogsfather and Moving Pictures to be delightful fun.

Perhaps the follow-up poll should be, excluding Vimes*, who is your favourite Discworld character?

Voted Jingo in the end, but so many good books, it is a hard choice im possibly one of the few that rates the Rincewind books.
But whether the Rincewind books, the watch, Death, the witches, Moist books or the various more one shot type, they are all good and some simply fantastic.

This is what Pratchett said in the Art of Discworld…

"People say: 'Did you get the idea of Tulip and Pin from...' and then fill in the names of any of half-a-dozen fictional criminal duos. And the answer is no, but I probably got them from the same equation. It's a Law of Narrative that if your gang consists of two people (a gangette) one will be the brains of the outfit and one will supply the muscle and speak like dat. They must both, of course, wear black suits. If there are three of them, that still applies but the new guy will be called Fingers."
