Prayer for a new cover

Is it possible to make something consensual without being commonplace/boring ?

We can yak about it all we want, but rest assured we have no say at all regarding the look of the new books (nor should we).

**Far** preferred the "let's play it safe" 3e covers to the 1e and 2e standard useless fantasy art covers. At least the 3e covers were unique, distinguishing themselves from the standard d20 fare.

when i first saw the prototype for the PH cover on this site [well, sort of ... when it was eric's site ... you know what i mean ...] and then on the wizards site i was most definitely not impressed. actually, i think my words were, "how gaudy!" but once i had the book in hand my opinion quickly changed. i now love the new covers, although i'm also quite fond of the FR covers. both are highly preferable to the "ultra-kitsch" [ ] that a fantasy painting of heroes and/or monsters would engender.

Yes, since I heavily dislike Easley work, I thought it was a lesser evil. But then, they have been copied by every D20 publishers !

Hello Alo ! The ADSL works now ! 'Twas these naughty non-filtered phones indeed.


Oh, yes, the "fake gems and metals splattered on the cover style" is quite kitschy indeed. I estimate the ones wil Swekel sketches on the cover (like the Manual of the Planes) are the best looking.

And the MM2 cover would have been better than the MM1 (didn't liked those plastic scales) cover if it hadn't had this triangular fishmouth-with-big-glowing-thingie (is that the gutter of a microfiendwurm ?).

The style has been copied by d20 publishers, true, but usually in a more classy fashion. Relics & Rituals or Creature Collection, from a cover standpoint, are prettier (now, if we open the book and compare the interior art...).

Not to be rude or anything, but you have got to be kidding.
I would much rather have a totally obnoxious cover on a book filled with great information on game play, balanced characters, and clear explanations of rules than a beautiful cover without all that stuff.

Who says its an either/or proposition? Are you so used to half-assed product that you're just happy if at least the insides are nice? I say have them go for the gold, inside and out.

not that im any better and words and such but still i come here to find out y to pray for covers and i learn something new about how to speek
