PrC: Devine Sword of Nintu

Anaxander

First Post
I'm running a campaign in a self-brewed desert world with Arabian, Akkadian and Egyptian elements. Nintu is the goddess of the Moon and a 'Devine Sword of Nintu' is a fighter-cleric who can imbue her sword with touch-spells and call forth a moonblade once a day. Have a look and tell me your opinions. (see attachment)

Well, this class is made for my campaign so I didn't bother mentioning the details. The "Grace of Nintu" means that the person is chosen by the Moon Godess herself, to be her Devine Sword. The "Trial" is a small quest which proves the worth of the chosen one. In my campaign, this test consists of the search for a small abandoned temple of Nintu and the cleansing of it from evil desert ghouls.

Class Features
All the following are Class Features of the Devine Sword of Nintu prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Devine Swords gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor.

Align Sword (Sp): When a Devine Sword of Nintu uses a sword, this sword is considered to be of the same alignment as the Devine sword herself (as if under the Align Weapon spell).

Imbue Sword (Su): The Sword of Nintu can imbue the sword she’s using with a touch-spell (e.g. inflict light wounds). When she strikes a foe with her imbued sword, the spell is released upon her enemy. This attack must happen within 1 minute (6 rounds) or the spell is lost.

Moonblade (Su): Once a day the Devine Sword can command forth a Moonblade. This is a +2 magical silver sword of any desired type, which does an additional 1d6 damage to undead creatures. The Moonblade can only be used by the Sword of Nintu. The Moonblade lasts for 5 minutes + ½ minute per Divine Sword level. At 5th level the Moonblade becomes a +3 magical silver sword, which does an additional 2d6 damage to undead creatures. At 9th level the Moonblade becomes a +4 magical silver sword, which does an additional 3d6 damage to undead.

Lesser Shield of Nintu (Su): At 3rd level the Devine Sword can protect herself once a day against evil with a magical shield. A silver glow surrounds her and grants her a +2 deflection bonus to her AC against evil creatures and SR 15 against evil spellcasters. The Shield of Nintu lasts for 5 minutes + ½ minute per Devine Sword level.
Greater Shield of Nintu (Su): At 7th level the Shield of Nintu becomes stronger. It grants her a +4 deflection bonus to AC and SR 25 against evil spellcasters.

Spells per Day/Spells Known: When a new even Devine Sword level is gained, the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if she had also gained a level in whatever arcane spellcasting class she had before she added the prestige class level. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained.

Seems balanced -- good job! :)

I'd take issue with some of the abilities, though.

1/ Lack of synergy between "moonblade" and "imbue weapon".

2/ Lack of synergy between "moon shield" and Clerical schtick (heavy armor, spells, turn undead, etc.) -- Clerics get lots of ways to get a Deflection bonus to AC, and they can use regular Shields.

3/ I know they're balanced more easily than more "interesting" mechanics, but I'm just not a fan of 1/day special abilities. I guess if you use Action Points they gain some interesting resource-management potential, but in general they just strike me as dull. This is personal taste; some people love x/day spell-like abilities.
