Prc help

The Iron Mark

First Post
I'm thinking about making a Prc and I would like some tips. Also, if you make a Prc focus around ONE weapon(not a group, just a single weapon), does that give you more clearance to make it stronger? I was wondering of making a Prc around the Gyrspike from S&F. I know I know, it looks stupid as hell, but that's the point. To beat the *bleep* out of guys with something so stupid.

Well, the Gyrspike's from Sword and Fist.

Sword and Fist details the Lasher (whip) and Master of Chains (Spiked Chain) classes. Each make a particular weapon much more powerful than is otherwise possible with a pure fighter using bonus feats.

So why not build a prestige class around a specific weapon? There's already a precedent.

There are also two other weapon master type PrC's - the Duelist (fencing/swashbuckling specialist) and the Weapon Master (very generic melee weapon PrC)

I don't think limiting it to one weapon should allow you make it any stronger then normal. LAsher, Master of Chains, and WEapon Master are all geared towards one weapon (weapon Master any weapon, but still only one) and aren't that powerful.

If you make it so powerful it unbalances the charcter in terms of the other characters in the group, then I would say that is a bad thing. If it blends in well with the power level of the other characters, then you are probably fine.

The thing about creating a prestige class around a weapon is you end up with a character that is primarily only useful in combat situations, sort of like the lasher, it is a completely weapon driven prestige class.

If you are happy with that, then give it a try, post what you come up with, and we will help you out.

It can be more powerful to the point that the char has the advantage over a fighter in specific fights, when specific tactics can be used. However the class should lose to a fighter in other fights, and at best be even in a 1on1 melee.

and for the love of god, do not give a warrior type prestige class spell like abilities unless that's the whole point of the class. man do i ever hate seeing that.
