PrCs in Eberron

To be fair, that is the Ability Collector's raison d etre.
Personally I'd much rather see a balanced bunch of abilities than flavour that I'm going to ignore when I create my own for the character...

And the minute the class becomes unusable without it's pre-built flavour is the minute that it becomes a largely worthless PrC for a great number of players and DMs.

We have enough generic PrCs. Personally, I'm all for putting the "prestige" back into "prestige classes."

Yeah generic prestige classes for me suck. World specific prestige classes are, to me, MUCH better. Though I will say Hallowed Mage and some from Malhavoc can be useful.

Btw I think it would be interesting IF BoVD and BoED got some play. I know i'd love to see a strong cult of Orcus in this world. But I would hope they don't use EVERYTHING else in WotC worlds. I do think it's a misprint of sorts since it is obvious that Eberron has its own gods as well as prestige classes too.

See, I'm the other way. Almost all setting-specific Prestige Classes are utterly useless to me, as most of my games take place in Planescape with most of the Primes being homebrew. It takes a lot of work for me to transform a setting-specific PrC into something I can use-- whereas, it's much easier for me to transform a generic PrC into a special organization.

Well again Kor, that's the difference between those of us that HAVE a world and the rest that use something else. But regardless, it's still a personal choice. Me, I can relate to those that feel the Pr-class overkill, at least when speaking generically.

I like setting specific PrCs when they're available. Otherwise, it just doesn't feel special. It's just another class.

For example, there are thousands of police in the world, but if you say Secret Service, everybody knows what you're talking about. It needs to inspire a certain mindset or it's just not prestigous (sp?).

This is certainly true GW. I think if like you are saying "Hey I'm a SPY!" people might be interested..or not. But if you said "I'm in the service of MI-5" people are more inclinded to see what you have to say.
