Is anyone on the boards familiar with a precedence for leaping from the saddle of a moving mount?
You would likely handle it as a standard dismount (plus jump if you want to go farther than an adjacent square), i.e. you can do it as a move action (and use another move action for the jumping), or use:
"Fast Mount or Dismount
You can attempt to mount or dismount from a mount of up to one size category larger than yourself as a free action, provided that you still have a move action available that round. If you fail the Ride check, mounting or dismounting is a move action. You can’t use fast mount or dismount on a mount more than one size category larger than yourself."

Here is another option from the RotG:
"Bailing Out: If you fail to control an untrained mount, you don't want your frightened mount to gallop away from a battle with you hanging on for dear life, so you can use a free action to just let go and fall off your mount. Your turn is still over, but at least you're still in the action. Deliberately falling off your mount is a free action for you. If you decide to fall off, you can make a Ride check to soften the fall (which doesn't take an action)."

This method seems to place the dismounting character on the ground in an adjacent square, and then that character jumps... am I reading this correctly?
Not very handy for flying mount, but thanks for the input.

There's nothing wrong with having the jump be from the saddle (i.e. done simultaneously with the dismount)... D&D doesn't really differentiate, and the basic mechanics are provided.
