D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

Not true - I love it, because it’s associated with my childhood memories. So I wouldn’t want it changed (to, for example, make sense), and I realise that it doesn’t have that value to anyone who wasn’t playing D&D in the 1980s.
Ah! That actually makes more sense, in fact.

I suspect that our disconnect is there - I was only ever speaking of remixing old adventures in general - someone else suggested that particular one - and you were expressing your distaste for "updating" that one.

It seems to me that whenever they Remaster an old Adventure, they ought to at least look at any sequels or supplements, to see if they can fit in any tidbits. It seems like a no-brainer to me, even when the material isn't perfect.
I was mildly surprised that Heroes of the Borderlands didn't reference that the Caves of Chaos had been a problem for the Borderlands for five decades. It would be an easy Easter egg and explain why the murderous hermit, for instance, is long gone. Not necessary, but it would have been a fun wink to longtime fans.

Hypotheticaly if WOTC didn't release any books this year what would that do to D&D as a brand?
There's the danger of reducing its mindshare, since you wouldn't have the cycle of retailers (brick & mortar and digital) putting the new D&D thing out where the customers could see it and be reminded of it.

They have a good, deep catalog of stuff available, but there's value in reminding people to go look at the D&D stuff for sale, rather than just hoping someone will dig around in the back of the store and discover an unsold copy of Tomb of Annihilation.

It would also reduce the chances of expanding licensing in the lifestyle area. It would be hard to convince Converse or LEGO that they should back a brand that is stagnant internally.
