D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

I would be surprised if they went that route out the gate, but we'll see.
I hope they stick to releasing the two book format for a setting once a year for the foreseeable future. Ravenloft and Dragonlance next, in no particular order. After that, throw in a new one or expand Radiant Citadel, after that, revisit Planescape, Spelljammer, or FR, repeat

Let's assume that Dark Sun is coming. What quarter would that drop in?

And, do you think it will be a Big Fat Setting Book, or do you think it will be a Slipcase Adventure/Setting?
Most likely late 3rd or early 4th. Probably the big release for the year, so aiming at Christmas.

I would say a two book pair, like FR, as that format seems to have been quite well received.

FR is the first one in 5E to get that treatment. Is it "proven"?
The feedback was positive, and the feedback on the formats of Stryxhaven, Dragonlance and Spelljammer were very negative. You don't need to be a genius to know which way to go.
Hmm, I am not sure "the setting is irrelevant" is a well supported argument.
Most of the target market are to young to have any knowledge of a historic setting. Ergo, all settings, new and old, are equally unknown quantities. The punters will buy it if it's good, not because of nostalgia from grandad.

I was specifically talking about the dual book format. That is a lot more outlay.

Then they could just as easily do something new.

But they won't.

It’s twice as much revenue for one project. Much of what gets created winds up being cut to fit into a single book. So you get two books for little more work than one.

They could, but why reinvent the wheel? There are only so many ways you can make a fantasyland, and they have all been done before.

I can't imagine how they wouldn't view that as a big win.

And "something new" would have an equal chance of failure to success. Whereas they just had a proven success. They'd be aware that it might not repeat, but it's got the best chance they have.

I expect DS will have the two-book format, and if not that, then the same basic format crammed under one cover.
