D&D 5E Prediction: No OGL until at least May if not later

The Kickstarter was to port CN:MS over to Pathfinder. According to Trapdoor, they are basically ready to go with the 5E D&D version for iOS.

Now, I take that claim with a grain of salt, since we still don't know why WotC cut ties with them. Nevertheless, they are one of the potential competitors to produce 5E digital tools, and they've gotten good reviews from people who've seen the iOS product in action. (The web and Android versions were disasters, but iOS is supposedly pretty solid.)

I'm seeing a lot more grains of salt than any evidence they have anything ready to go. If they, having been on board with WotC (though cut loose), are showing so little, I can't help but think that anyone else would have to be a number of steps even further behind.

You are aware that they were aiming for a PF version with morningstar? They lost their fansupport in doing that...

The guys behind morningstar have shown they have an iOS product that was useable for 5E... but they can't release that now. So, they were looking to port it over to PF... and the fans of the project weren't enough to go forward.

But they aren't the only game in town.

Looking at the track record for Herolab, every time that developer said they were ready to go on something, they have been. They approached SJG with the GURPS module ready to be checked by SJG. They now say they're waiting on WotC to be able to go forward with a 5E plug in for Herolab.

And then there's the excellent (utility-wise) but basic interface 5E Character for android. Would be nice if he could get a license to use the actual PHB text.

The DM Minion software (android and iOS) works pretty well, too... again, would be nice if it were able to use the MM text.

The Android and iOS markets are filled with 3rd party tools - one of them getting the nod (and the rest C&D's) would be a huge step forward.

The one element really missing is the electronic texts. That's the part of Trapdoor's failed promise that I was looking for.

Oh, I get it. They were the front runner to create 5E software and lost WotC's backing then tried to gain funds by tapping the PF base and didn't find much support there either. I don't think either outcome bodes well. As for anyone who never had backing from WotC, I'm just not convinced 5E software will come about in any significant manner, even if an OGL appears with no restrictions whatsoever. If anyone has any links to something with legs, I'm happy to check them out. Otherwise, all we seem to know for sure are three things: WotC has no 5E OGL, WotC has severed ties with Trapdoor, and Trapdoor couldn't raise funds by tapping the PF fanbase.
